How many lost, mystical places are there in South America? There are many 'lost' and mystical cities of the ancient Inca civilization, a civilization that dominated much of the continent, from the 13th century AD, until the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, in the 16th century of the common era.
The City of Manchu Picchu
As one of the principal cities of the Inca civilization, Manchu Picchu was, both, the spiritual and traditional center of the Inca empire - and one of the last cities to fall to the Spanish conquistadors in 1533. For many years, it was lost to the world and the pages of history, until 1911, when its ruins was discovered by a man, named Hiram Bingham.
Soon after the ruins of Manchu Picchu was discovered, teams of international archaeologist teams set upon this site and began to dig and discover more of the mystical wonders that were hidden from the word for nearly four centuries.
Now, the site is protected by the Peruvian Historical Sanctuary, listed on a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is named as one of the "Seven Wonders of the World!" T
The City of Cuzco
The lost and mythical city of Cuzco, is, also, an ancient Inca city, which peaks the interest of many of those who come to see and admire this great, lost city. Moreover, Cuzco was the capital of the ancient Inca empire, form the 13th century, until 1533, when the Spanish conquistadors invaded and destroyed the city and ultimately - the empire itself.
Unlike its sister city, Manchu Pichhu, Cuzco has lasted over the centuries and has endured many many political and natural disasters, including an 1950 earthquake, which badly damaged the city. Even, with the passing of time, Cuzco, just like Manchu Picchu, is a grand ancient and mystical place to see for all generations to come!
